At Communication Station we are aware that every business has individual requirements, we will endeavor to meet all of your needs.

Whether you require CPD training, updating of skills, a new skill or a course for a specific purpose, we can assist you with your requirements.

Below is only a sample of the ways in which we can train you and your staff.

What we can do:

  • Offer a free taster session in BSL (2 hours)
  • Offer training towards a formal qualification (deaf studies/sign language)
  • Offer specific training that leads to an attendance certificate

What we will do:

  • Tailor contents and timing to meet your needs
  • Offer short courses
  • Offer training in the form of workshops, as full day or half day sessions, and need not be consecutive OR
  • Deliver over a longer period of time for a minimum of 2 hours per session (or 2 or more groups at 1 hour)

We will also:

  • Give discounts to; registered charities, schools/sixth form centres and voluntary groups
  • Give attendance Certificates for all non Signature courses
  • Arrange for assessments to take place where necessary

Our training includes:

Communicating and Presenting with confidence

(Attendance certificated)

An ideal way to build your own, or employees, confidence with speaking and presenting.

This course is ideal for anyone for everyone that would like to:

  • Improve their speaking/presenting skills
  • Gain more confidence when speaking/presenting
  • Reduce their use of verbal crutches
  • Learn tips to improve their speaking/presentation skills
  • increase their vocabulary
Sessions include:

  • Controling nerves
  • Reducing verbal crutches
  • Handling awkward silences
  • Making presentations more accessible for people with reduced/loss of hearing or sight
  • Content clarity

Can be delivered as:

  • One day course - basic tips and advice alongside opportunity to put these skills into practice
  • Longer courses - bespoke courses available, with extended feedback available.

Introduction to Disability Issues    

(Attendance certificated)

Ideal to introduce individuals to disability issues prior to more specific training such as Deaf and Deafblind Awareness, Autism Awareness or a career in the disability sector.

This course is an ideal introduction for anyone that is:

  • Considering a career change/needs to implement such training
  • Going to, or currently studying, a variety of courses including; Social Care, Deaf Studies and Nursing
  • Interested in fundamental disability issues

Sessions include:

  • What is disability?
  • Enabling and disabling environments
  • What careers are there for people with disabilities?
  • What careers are there for people wishing to work in the disability sector?

Can be delivered as:

  • A 1 day workshop
  • 2 half day workshops
  • Shorter sessions over a longer period of time

Deaf, Blind and Deafblind Awareness                                     (Formal qualification or Attendance certificate)

To raise awareness of, and create an accessible, positive environment for, Deaf, Blind and Deafblind people.  Employees, current and potential clients.

These courses are ideal for everyone especially those who:

  • Work with one or more other people
  • Work with members of the public
  • Have a hearing/sight loss
  • Know someone with a hearing/sight loss
  • Have a deaf, blind or deafblind child/family member
  • Work with/supports someone deaf, blind or deafblind
  • Wants to learn more about deaf, blind or deafblind issues

Sessions include:

  • Simulation
  • Communication methods used by deaf, blind and deafblind individuals
  • Community and Culture
  • Technology used by deaf, blind and deafblind individuals
  • Communication support
  • Scenario practice/roleplay
  • Enabling and disabling environments

Can be delivered as:

  • A 2 day workshop
  • 4 half day workshops
  • Shorter sessions over a longer period of time

Communication Tactics with Deaf and Deafblind People(Formal qualification or Attendance Certificate)

To raise awareness of, and create an accessible, positive environment for, Deaf and Deafblind people.

This course is ideal for everyone especially those who:

  • Work with one or more other people
  • Work with members of the public
  • Have a hearing loss
  • Know someone with a hearing loss
  • Have a deaf or deafblind child/family member
  • Work with/supports someone deaf or deafblind
  • Wants to learn more about deaf/deafblind issues

Sessions include:

  • Suitable and unsuitable language environments
  • Communication strategies
  • Scenario practice
  • Communication practice

Can be delivered as:

  • A 1 day workshop
  • 2 half day workshops
  • Shorter sessions over a longer period of time

British Sign Language*

Ideal for all - this is the preferred method of 70,000+ people in the UK and is an officially recognised language.  Learning it will enable you/your staff to:

  • Communicate more effectively with Deaf and Deafblind people
  • Provide an improved service to BSL users
  • Increase sales to minority group

To enhance communication with and provide an accessible, positive environment for British Sign Language users.

British Sign Language in the Workplace              (Introduction: 18 hrs)

Can be delivered as:

  • 3 day workshops
  • 6 half day workshops (3 hours each)
  • Regular shorter sessions over a longer period of time to suit you

British Sign Language in the Workplace                        (Basic: 30-60 hours depending on your requirements)

Can be delivered as:

  • Half day workshops
  • Regular shorter sessions over a period of time to suit you

*Due to the intensity of 'BSL for the Workplace' when delivered as workshops there is a recommended maximum of 12 participants per group.

It may be possible to gain a CACDP qualification - British Sign Language Level 1 - delivered in the workplace.  However a minimum number of hours input is required.

If you have specific needs then BSL for the workplace is for you.

Combined Training:

Deaf and Deafblind Awareness, Communication Tactics with Deaf and Deafblind People and BSL for the Workplace**

A combined course that gives maximum training at minimum cost to the employer.

* All 'BSL in the Workplace' students/employees need prior knowledge: i.e. in date Attendance or CACDP certificates in 'Deaf and Deafblind Awareness' 'Communication Tactics with Deaf & Deafblind People' or; have the old 'Deaf Awareness,' 'Deafblind Awareness' & 'Communication Tactics with Deaf People' CACDP qualifications.

OR

Personal experience of the Deaf Community, communication and basic signing skills.

**  Students/employees taking the combined course need no prior knowledge of deaf issues.

Deaf and Deafblind Awareness/Comunication Tactics with Deaf and Deafblind People

Book either the BSL for the work place (60 hours) or Signature BSL Level 1 and get Communication Tactics training for the same individuals for FREE

Costs per session

Corporate training:

£35 per hour (+ exam fees/travel costs if applicable)

Registered charities/Voluntary organisations, schools and sixth form centres:

£25 per hour (+ exam fees/travel costs if applicable)

No travel costs within Coventry and Warwickshire.
